Gene Allen

Gene Allen, 84, of Bonner Springs, KS passed away on Wed., Jan. 2, 2013 at the Golden Living Parkway Care Home in Edwardsville, KS. Where he has lived since 2006 suffering with Alzheimer's. A memorial Celebration of Life gathering will be from 5 to 7 pm, on Mon., Jan. 7, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home. Gene was born on May 16, 1928 in Muscogee, OK and moved to this area as a Freshman in High School, graduating from Bonner Springs High school in 1946 and then joining the U.S. Coast Guard. He worked for many years as a Carpenter in Construction and became a superintendent for W.W. Bennett in Kansas City, MO. He was proud to have built his families homes and had a close attention to detail "he was Picky". He was quite a baseball player in his younger days, pitching a perfect game in 1952 for the Bonner Springs Team. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mary Ann Allen of the home. Two children Teresa Ellis (Ted) of Tonganoxie, KS and Dale Allen of Bonner Springs, KS. One brother Richard Allen of Bonner Springs, KS and 4 grandchildren Katy Crookham, Jeny Kooser, Kirt Allen and Shilo Allen and 6 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank all of his caregivers at the Golden Living Parkway Care Home for all the loving care he received.

My thoughts are with you today. I have many special memories of Gene. The hunting trips we all shared and the wedding anniversary dinners at "The Colony". All the parties at the lake and on Oldham Rd. He and Bud are probably sharing a drink and smiling down at us.
