Gary Glover Obituary

Gary James Glover passed on September 27, 2016 from Huntington's disease.

Gary is survived by his brother Michael, nephew Grady Glover, his three children Kaili, Landon, and Kellan, niece Haley Cherry her son Nate, niece Jennifer Spiess her two children Bryce and Mackenzie Mohl, and nephew Jeff Dillion.

Memorial Mass is 10 A.M. Saturday, December 3rd at St. Johns, burial at Oak Hill Cemetery, and reception at Johnny's North Lawrence.

Gary was born to George and Evelyn Glover, on March 8, 1962. He was predeceased by his mother Evelyn from Huntington's in 1976, his father George from cancer in 1984, and his sister, Debbie in August 2004 also from Huntingtons.

Gary was baptized and received first communion at St. Johns, attended St John's parochial school, Hillcrest grade school, West Junior HS and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1980.

At an early age he worked for his dad at his Mexican food restaurant, Casa de Taco doing dishes, cleaning floors and helping with preparation and serving

After high school he moved to San Francisco and worked as a "bike messenger" roofer, and a catering service, Forks and Fingers. He lived on a scif in Sausalito Bay. He returned to Kansas and helped start the "Mega Kegger". He graduated from JCCJC as a chef then worked at Westin Crown Center and Carriage Club, Kansas City Missouri.

Gary married Amy Vernon in October 1987. They lived in Hawaii in the late 80's where he worked as a sous chef at the Westin Mauna Kea on the Big Island. They assimilated into the Hawaiian culture effortlessly and spent days off exploring the Island.

Gary rode his BMW motorcycle while working at fine dining restaurants in Colorado; Tabor Center Denver, Broadmoor Hotel Colorado Springs, and Fox Acres. In Lawrence at The Eldrgide Hotel and KU Alumni, and in California at the Center Club in Costa Mesa, Palm Springs, Cota de Casa, and San Diego.

Gary moved to California in July 2013. During his last three years, he went to concerts, Bass Lake, Yosemite, beaches, movies, ball games, and often visited his grand nieces and nephews, Kaili, Landon, Kellan, and Nate. He was a friend of Bill Wilson, attended meetings regularly in Lawrence and California.

His last movie was The Beatles, his last meal was Mexican. He never gave-in to his disease or wanting to come home to Lawrence. He was loved deeply by his family, his friends and Amy, his only wife.

Gary was a great guy and friend! He taught me to water ski and we had a lot of laughs and good times together. He was extremely brave as his illness progressed and lived as full a life as possible. My best to all his family and friends.

My condolences to the family. Gary went to dinner numerous times with myself and other friends of Bill. He always had a smile for everyone he saw. He called me a lot just to see how I was doing. Even with what he was dealing with he always had time for others. I was sad when he moved away from Lawrence but I knew it was what was best for him.
Rock On Sweetie I will see you again my friend!
