Frederick Timms Obituary

Frederick William Timms died at the age of 81 on December 4, 2018 at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa, California. He lived in Fort Bragg, CA from 1972 to 1997 with his wife Joanne (Joedy) Timms and his two sons, Daniel and Douglas. Frederick (Fred) was born on February 18, 1937 in Chicago, IL and grew up at the Lake Bluff Children's Home in Lake Bluff, IL.

He joined his son in Lawrence, KS from 1997 – 2002, briefly attending the University of Kansas and JCCC to study art He was a tireless advocate for his son's tree business and was often seen distributing flyers on his bicycle around town. He attempted to walk 62 miles from Garnett, KS to Lawrence, KS on his 62nd birthday and almost made it.

In his earlier days, he had many adventures, which included running from Berkeley, CA to Washington, DC to protest the Vietnam War. He met the love of his life, Joedy, in the San Francisco Bay area, marrying her in 1967. Their fraternal twin sons, Daniel Mark and Douglas Scott were born on September 22, 1968 in Greenbrae, California. The family moved up the northern California coast in 1972 and made their home just north of Fort Bragg, CA on 6 acres of land. Fred loved the ocean, the sand dunes, the forest, horses, dogs, long distance running, chess, and ice cream. He made his living as a sign painter, artist, and jack-of-all physical trades; he had a wild, untamable spirit. His final years were spent at the Yountville Veterans Hospital, in the Napa Valley.

He is survived by his sister, Rosemary Stewart, of Broadmoor, IL, and her family; his two sons, Daniel Parker-Timms of Lawrence, KS and Douglas Timms of San Francisco, CA; and his two grandsons, Reed and Alden Parker-Timms (Lawrence, KS). While not a blood relative, Joedy's daughter, April Gobershock of Greenbrae, CA, was a loving and generous caregiver in his final years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Heart's Desire Beach in Inverness, CA on December 27th at 11:00am, with hot cocoa provided. Please contact his son, Daniel, for further information.

Thinking about Fred and all the wild stories of what he's done in his life. He was a free spirit that cared for his family the best he could. Take care Dan and Doug and April. Thinking of you and Godspeed to Fred.

Big hugs, Dan and family. He sounds like an amazing character with a lifetime of great stories. Losses like this are so hard. I absolutely love that hot cocoa is being served...sounds like he would have loved that.
