Frederic "Fred" Keith Farrier

Fred Farrier, 91, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 9:00 p.m., Thursday, August 29th, while in the company of family members, at McPherson Hospital.

Fred was born in Seneca, Missouri on December 18, 1921, a son of Celeste Gertrude (Nutting) and James Fred Farrier.

He attended the Kanwaka country school rural Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School, Lawrence, Kansas in 1941.

Fred was a member of McPherson church of Christ McPherson, Kansas and a former member of the Southside church of Christ in Lawrence, Kansas. He served as a Deacon and then 30 years as an Elder for the Southside church of Christ.

He honorably served in the U.S. Army as a Cpl during WW II. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Silver Service Star, and EAME Ribbon. Fred served in Tunisia, Naples-Foggia Rome-Arno, North Appenines, and Po Valley campaigns and battles with Company B. 40th Bn. He served in Africa and Europe for 33 months.

Fred started working for KP& L in Lawrence, Kansas as a Lineman for three years and was a Line Foreman for thirty-three years before his retirement in 1984.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post of Lawrence, Kansas, and a member of the I.B.E.W. Union. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and being-out-of-doors.

Fred was united in marriage to Ann Laverne Phillips on January 12, 1946 in Baxter Springs, Kansas. The young couple established their first home in Lawrence, Kansas where they lived until 1987 when they moved to McPherson, Kansas.

Surviving family members include his loving and devoted wife of over sixty-seven years Ann Laverne Farrier, of McPherson, Kansas; his children, Peggy Bassham and her husband Mike, of Kilgore, Texas, Kathy Thomas and her husband Greg, of McPherson, Kansas, and Dan Farrier and his wife Marsha, of Georgetown, Texas; his sister, Nadine Hadl, of Lawrence, Kansas; his eight grandchildren, Kathleen Demuth and her husband Jeff, of Mansfield, Texas, Stephanie George and her husband Richard, of Greenwood, Arkansas, Susan Heflin and her husband Brian, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Megan Eck and her husband Stephen, of Edmond, Oklahoma, Reid Thomas and his wife Kem, of Searcy, Arkansas, Sarah Thomas, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Shelley Tindel and her husband Todd, of Round Rock, Texas, and Emily Farrier, of Owasso, Oklahoma; his 12 great-grandchildren, Morgan, Annika, and Lauren Demuth; Riley, Jacob, and Maggie George; Elijah and Meredith Eck; Anna, Josie, and Griffin Thomas; and Wes Tindel.; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers, David, Reuben, and Don Farrier, and sisters, Geraldine Hadjukavich, Dorothy Rake, Maxine Farrier, and Violet Farrier.

The funeral service will be held at the McPherson church of Christ, McPherson, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 2, 2013 with the family officiating.

Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the Memorial Park Cemetery Lawrence, Kansas with military honors presented by members of the Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 American Legion, Lawrence, Kansas.
