Francis Scherer Obituary
Francis Joseph Scherer, age 82, of Basehor, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2014. Funeral Mass Service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17th at the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Basehor, KS. with entombment to follow in the Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in Kansas City, Kansas. Rosary Service will be Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. followed by the visitation until 8 p.m. both at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. In lieu of flower the family suggests memorial contributions to the Sisters Servants of Mary, in care of the funeral home.
Francis was born on his family's farm on April 10, 1932 in Atchison, KS. the fifth of six children born to Henry and Sarah (Watowa) Scherer. Francis served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He and his wife Joann moved to Basehor in 1972 where he worked as a trim carpenter and home builder. Francis was a lifelong Catholic and was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Joann Scherer of the home. Five children; Jackie Bell and husband Jack, Judy Scherer, Jeff Scherer and wife Marci, Janet Smith and husband Scott, and Joe Scherer; one sister Mildred Ludwig, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
