Evelyn Vorovka Obituary
Evelyn was born June 6, 1923, the daughter of Richard Lange and Mildred (McMasters) Lange in Crawford, NE. She grew up in Western Nebraska, graduating from Hemingford High School, Hemingford, NE with the class of 1943. Later in life Evelyn would go on and attend Chadron State College for three years taking several Art classes and a few general education classes.
She was a lifelong Homemaker and loved caring for her family. Evelyn took great care and pride in her cooking. Her family was always excited to sit down together and enjoy her meals. She also spent many years of her life working at home as an artist. She entered several art shows over her life and was always very proud of the numerous ribbons she received for her work. She sold many pieces of her work over time and was very skilled at her craft. One of her favorite aspects of Art was her years volunteering as an Art Instructor for children and older adults.
On June 29, 1945 Evelyn was united in marriage to George Vorovka in Hemingford, NE. They left the next day for Pensacola, FL where George was a naval aviator flight instructor during World War II. They farmed west of Hemingford after the war. They shared over seventy-one wonderful years together until George passed away in 2017.
Evelyn is survived her son David Vorovka and his good friend, Randy Stejskal, Lincoln, NE; daughter Cheri Thompson and her husband, Mike, Lawrence, KS; and two grandsons Tony Thompson and his wife, Michelle, Kansas City, MO, Tim Thompson and his wife, Rachel, Lenexa, KS.
Celebration of Life services will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Brookside Community Center, Overbrook, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence Humane Society sent in care of Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O. Box 268, Overbrook, KS, 66524. Cheri, I am so sorry for your loss. Your Mom was the highlight of the day for anyone she met. Her laugh, ability to sing a song she remembered from childhood or her willingness to show a struggling artist the magic of painting with watercolors are some of the memories I will cherish. She spoke often of the love for her family, the world adventures, and flights with George or yourself in the pilots seat. I know your memories of your Mom are overflowing with love and laughter... most likely the way she would like it to be. She touched so many people with her beautiful take on life on past her 100th birthday. We are all better people for knowing your Mom. Sincere condolences to your entire family and Evie's many close friends.

I never had the opportunity to meet Evelyn, but I have heard so much about her rich, vibrant, creative, and expansive life from her daughter Cheri that I feel as if I really did know her. Evelyn lived so well and for so long that I began to think that she might never make her exit, but she proved to be mortal after all. She was a treasure and her life was, indeed, a blessing.

I am so glad I got to meet Evelyn and chat with her! And I am proud to have a beautiful card with one of her paintings on it plus a practical dish cloth from her. Cheri and Mike-I can't even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed getting to know Evelyn. She was one of the most delightful patients I was ever blessed to advise and provide medical treatment. What a spirit for life. It was pure joy every time I saw her. Her enthusiasm for life was unique.
