Elena Ledesma Obituary

A Family's 'Source of Light'
Elena Ledesma was the heart and soul of her extended family. On camping trips, she was the first to pitch the tents. She was the one who administered insulin to her 66-year- old diabetic mother and took her to the doctor. She was raising two daughters and working full time.

Ms. Ledesma, who was 37, worked at the World Trade Center as a maintenance coordinator at Marsh & McLennan. She was responsible for maintenance on Floors 93 to 99. The divorced mother of a 12-year-old and a 17-year-old, she lived in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Her mother, aunts and cousins all lived in the same building.

"My sister was a giving person," said Nelson Hernandez, her older brother. "She was always the one we turned to for anything. I had a lot of dreams. We were going to buy a house together for our mother."

Belkis Mercedes, a friend, said she believed that many family members still expected Ms. Ledesma to reappear. "She was their source of light," Ms. Mercedes said.

I happened across your name today and wanted to see your photograph. Your girls are now adults having lived more than half their lives without you. I just cannot imagine their loss and my heart breaks for them, and your family and friends. My love to your daughters.

May God Shine His Light On This Beautiful Woman, Mother Of An Old Friend Of Mine.
..I remember This Day As If It Were Yesterday. ..
It Was Only Just A Few Days Into The New School Year At My JHS When All Of A Sudden We Were All Informed On What Was Happening. A Classmate, A Friend, Was Taken Out Of The Room, And As She Walked Out, Our Hearts Broke When We Learned Her Mother, Too, Worked At The WTC. ..
.. Unfortunately, Elena Never Made It Home To See Her Family That Day, But I Know She Is Watching And Smiling Over Them Everyday.
..Shanhellen, My Heart And Prayers Will Forever Go Out To You And Your Family.

The sky was falling and streaked with blood

I heard you calling me,

and then you disappeared into the dust

Up the stairs into the fire,

Up the stairs into the fire,

I need your kiss but love and duty

called you someplace higher

Somewhere up the stairs, into the fire -

Today I attended a memorial here in San Diego, where San Diegans lined up to read the names, and ring a freedom bell, for the nearly 3000 people that perished on September 11th. I was fortunate enough to receive Elena's name, out of the thousands that could have been given to me. It was an honor to be able to read her name, and to connect to a woman that I was never privileged enough to meet. I give my deepest condolences to her family, and I owuld like to express the impact that this one woman has had on me. I don't think that I will ever forget her name, for she now has a permanent place in my heart.

My heart goes out to the family of Elena. Just out of curiosity, I entered my name as a keyword search on AOL. I never expected to find my name related to such a tragic event. I am moved and I am so sorry for your loss. May God keep my "tocaya" in peace. May God grant her children and all of the family peace. God Bless you!

Elena was my moms best friend, I had the pleasure of meeting her and accepting her into my life as a sister. My mom worked with her for many years and they became the best of friends, we visited and knew each others families well. I feel as if I would of lost a piece of my heart. She was the sister I never had. I know although that she is in a better place along with her brother has in now in gods kindom as well. You will both be missed and loved forever.

Elena has stayed with me in my heart and my mind. I met Elena about two and a half years ago when she first started working at Marsh. Although she worked on the 93rd floor she used to come up to the 95th floor to have lunch and chat with Tatiana (may she rest in peace), Ramona and Miguel. Whenever I walked in the pantry and saw the four of them together, I would sit and join in the conversation. The laughs that got us in trouble because we were a little noisy are the most remembered of all.

Elena loved to go camping with her daughters and friends. She even got me to go camping for the first time two years ago. She was so enthusiastic about me going camping, she even drew a map for me on a piece of paper....and boy did she know her routes!!

Elena, you will always be missed...

On Sept 11th, on that fatel morning, Elena's cousin, Lina and I were in pure hysteria viewing what had just occured. Lina was concerned because she new her cousin worked there and I because my niece, Monique Dejesus worked at Cantor Fitzgerald. Lina and I both lost our loved ones on Sept 11th, but we share an even more powerful friendship bond since that day. My heart goes out to the family of Elena Ledesma and her beautiful daughters who I had the opportunity of seeing them during an interview on television. I know the difficulty of loosing a loved one. I have you and in my prayers. We now have an angel in heaven, Elena and Monique are in a much better place.

Our old times were great and I will never forget them. Our secrets will always be a memory. Our wishes and desires will never come true and that really hurts. I love and miss you and I will never forget you.

May God Bless You and May You Rest In Peace.

We are very sorry for your loss of Elena. May her hard work habits, her life and love live on in all who love her. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
