Edna was born August 3, 1907 in Scott, OK, the daughter of John and Anna (Ziesneis) Sommer and moved to Eudora, KS when she was 6 years old. She graduated from Eudora HS in 1924. At 16 she was granted her "teaching certificate" and taught for a year in a one room school and later worked at the Eudora Department Store. On June 1, 1927 she married Clement "Clem" A Zillner at Holy Family Church, in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Ethel (Jennings). Edna and Clem were married for 63 years. They moved to Lawrence, with daughter, Virginia in 1940, later welcomed children Paul and Joyce. She worked as a "lunch lady" at CJHS for 27 years.

She loved vegetable and flower gardening, canning, cooking, quilting, sewing, music, singing (especially with "Elvis), sauerkraut dinners, friends, family and her adopted family at Pioneer Ridge.

A rosary will be recited at 6;00 p.m. on Monday, February 27th followed by a visitation until 8:00 PM at Warren McElwain-Mortuary.

Miss Edna lived well and worked hard. Her garden and her home were always well-tended. And she was blessed with a daughter who never hesitated to support her journey. I was fortunate to be a part of her family.

Joyce,
I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. It has been so many years since, but I fondly remember how sweet she was to me when I would spend nights with you when we were kids at St. John's. I can't believe she made it to
109. May God bless her and you. You are in my prayers.
