Earl Laverne daniels

Earl Laverne Daniels, born nov. 11, 1919 passed away peacefully at his home in bakersfield, ca. on january 11, 2014, surrounded by all his family. dad was born around lawrence/reno, ks., suffered through the great depression and still came out as a farmer, working side by side with his father, earl and mother mamie daniels. they share-cropped farms throughout Northeast Kansas but primarily around jarbalo, ks. Dad married martha sloan in 1947 and had 3 children, charlie, claudia and rebecca and a number of grandchildren as well. in 1957 they packed up the old 57 ford country sedan wagon and moved to lancaster, ca. where dad worked briefly for northrop aircraft. soon thereafter he went to work for CALTRANS, state div. of hwys., became a lead man, then foreman for the RIDGE ROUTE, HWY. #5, the connector between northern and southern california.

Dad was arguably the greatest athlete of his time in leavenworth county, ks, the JIM THORPE of his generation, 1937 grad. of JARBALO HIGH SCHOOL. he was a fantastic basketball player, track star but most admirable were his baseball skills, great enough to have played pro ball should he have pursued that option. he loved to hunt for quail, pheasant and doves and did so as time allowed. his old friend, FRANK BURWELL was his hunting buddy.

We will all miss him dearly and his friendly smile, his gentle demeanor and his honest work ethic. he also served honorably in the pacific theater in the marine corps during WW2. again, this man was the greatest athlete to come out of jarbalo high school for prior generations and those coming thereafter. he used to frustrate me when i thought i could jump higher than a kangaroo, then he would give a half hop and knock the basketball out of my hands. Dad, when you return to life in the EARTHLY RESURRECTION SOON TO COME, i want to have a ONE ON ONE GAME of roundball with you, just a friendly one though. Until that time, rest well and arise to a paradisaic earth soon to come.
