Dorothy Puckett Obituary

Dorothy "Dotty" Louise Puckett, 97, of Baldwin City, KS passed away Tuesday November 15, 2022.

She was born March 4, 1925 in Edgerton KS, the daughter of Tom Chester Hougland and Rachel Harriett (Hammer) Hougland.

A lifelong resident of Baldwin City she was united in Marriage to Gerald Melvin Puckett on March 17, 1941. They enjoyed many activities over the years, square dancing; metal detecting, card parties, travel and especially camping. In the later years they spent their winters in Yuma AZ and Spring and Summer in KS. They shared 56 years of marriage until his death in 1997.

Dotty was an excellent seamstress. She shared her sewing knowledge with the community while working at the Baldwin Dry Goods Store for many years. She also loved to crochet. She sewed and crocheted for her children, grandchildren, friends and the community. She was an avid reader, and a member of the Friends of the Library, Mothers Club, and Girl Scout Troop leader. Her love for life was infectious. If you knew her you know she loved hummingbirds, going for walks, the outdoors and gardening. She was well known for her beautiful plants and flowers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Puckett; her daughter, Joyce Mitchell; her parents, Tom and Rachel Hougland: her brother, Sherman Hougland and sister, Harriett Murray.

Dotty is survived by her three daughters, Janell Pritchard and husband, Doug, from wherever their motor home is parked, Judy Chanay, and husband, Doug, of Buena Vista, CO, Jill Ausherman and husband, David, of Euless, TX; and one sister, Gerry Hathenbrook; 12 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren, and 6 great-great Grandchildren.

Memorial Services for Mrs. Puckett will be held at Baldwin City Library Sunday November 27, from 2-4 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Baldwin City Library sent c/o Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O. Box 64, Baldwin City, KS 66006.
