Dorothy Powell Obituary

Dorothy May Powell, born May 20, 1931, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018 at the age of 86. The daughter of Ira and Silvia (Mason) Ikenberry, she was born in Rockport, MO and married Arvin Bennett Powell on February 11, 1955 in Lawrence, KS. He preceded her in death August 19, 2004.

Retired from Hallmark Cards after 25-years as a Tip Master, Dorothy was an avid KU Basketball fan and loved cheering them on. She also enjoyed playing bingo watching Wheel of Fortune and other television shows.

Survivors include her three children, Roger (Jill) Powell, Karen (Rick) Boyle, Brian (Dorothy) Powell; seven grandchildren: Kevin (Angie) Powell, Julie (Brandon) Powell, Greg (Melissa) Bissey, Jennifer (Bryce) Puntenney, Lisa (Pat) Bishop, Brian, Jr. Powell, Mikayla Powell; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Helen Torkelson; two brothers, Kenny Ikenberry, Raymond Ikenberry; and niece, Ethel Hutchinson. She was preceded by her brother Clifford Ikenberry.

The family will greet friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2018 and funeral services will be held from 11:00 to noon Monday, February 19, 2018-both at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will be on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 11:00 am at Memorial Park Cemetery.



Memorial contributions may be made in her name to The Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
