Delores Sooby Obituary

Delores "Dolly" Ann Rita Sooby, 90, of Lawrence passed away at home on Friday December 18 surrounded by her family. She was born in Elgin, IL, to Clarence and Dorothy Gough. Her parents, her husband Dennis, and brothers Doug and Jim Gough predeceased her.

Dolly was raised in Elgin, Il, where she worked at the Elgin Watch Company. She met her future husband while he was attending the Elgin National Watch Company Watchmakers' College.

After raising her four children, Dolly worked at E&E Specialties, from which she retired in 1991. During retirement, she and her husband Dennis (Denny) enjoyed attending KU basketball and football games. They traveled to many postseason venues on the NCAA roads to the Final Four to watch the Jayhawk basketball team play, planning their route between brewpubs along the way. Dolly also enjoyed league bowling.

Dolly is survived by daughter Rita of Lawrence, KS, and sons Steven (Marlene Rupp), recently of Vero Beach, FL, and Boston, MA; Thomas, recently of Las Vegas, NV; and Larry (Ann Bastone) of Wichita, KS.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, 200 Maine Street, Suite C, Lawrence, KS 66044 (kansasvna.org), or the Lawrence Humane Society, 1805 E 19th Street, Lawrence, KS 66046 (lawrencehumane.org).
