Delores Morris Obituary

A Celebration of Life for Delores Marie Morris, 97, Lawrence, KS, will be held Sunday, August 24, from 1-3 PM, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor, 1429 Kasold Dr, Lawrence. Delores passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at LMH Health.

Delores (Dee) was born February 3, 1928, in Emmett, KS, the daughter of Anthony and Edith (Simmons) Zima. Survivors include her daughter, Lareeda (Ace) Hickey, grandchildren, Bryan Hickey, Erin (Jake) Blodgett, great-grandchildren, Camden and Cooper Blodgett.

She was preceded in death by Richard Morris, her husband of 45 years, and siblings, Marvin Zima and Gloria Baldon.

Fun loving and meticulous record keeper, including many years of diary keeping, prepared her for managing three bars (The Huddle, Voo Doo Hut, and the Harbour Lights) in Lawrence. She retired at 50 when she found out she was to become a grandmother. She learned to drive for the first time so she could care and transport her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her love and attention to them.

She was an avid reader and loved working jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She loved games, especially Yahtzee. She collected stamps, coins, whiskey decanters, Czech glass and beanie babies, to name a few.

Her love of animals included a burro, geese, guineas, parrots, dogs, and cats. If a stray found its way to the top of Pleasant Grove hill, they found a home.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Delores's name to The Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
