Delmer Wray Obituary

Delmer Eugene Wray

Delmer Eugene Wray was released to his eternal home with the Lord Jesus a few minutes before 7AM on April 1, 2015.

Delmer was born near Ottawa, Kansas to Jesse and Delta Wray on December 23, 1925. He farmed with his father in his early years and was involved in farming his entire life… however, in 1975 at the age of fifty, he purchased a backhoe and for the next twenty-five years installed water lines and performed other excavation work. In 2001, he and Mother moved from Ottawa, KS to Pasco, WA, where Mother passed away in April of 2010. Even though his last years were spent in a care center, he patiently endured the long days of needing mostly total physical care. He was privileged to receive excellent care from the Guardian Angel facility on Van Giesen St in Richland, WA for the last three years. The care-givers at Guardian Angel were very loving and kind to him which gave him much comfort.

Dad accepted his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in his early years and proclaimed his faith with water baptism at a young age. He was a member of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church his entire life and became part of the New Conference in 2009.

Dad married Vesta Marie Smith on September 2, 1948 and enjoyed almost sixty-two years together. They were blessed with and survived by four children, one daughter and three sons: Sally Garber and son-in-law Marvin Garber of Chambersburg, PA; Everett Wray and daughter-in-law Sandra of Pasco, WA; Larry Wray and daughter-in-law Karen of Baldwin, KS; Dennis Wray and daughter-in-law Christine of Ottawa, KS; sixteen grandchildren and thirty-five great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Devena Mohler and brother-in-law Paul; Sister-in-law Martha Mohler and husband Loren; brother-in-law Alvin Smith and wife Elsie; sister-in-law Betty Smith. Preceding him in death was a brother Wilbur Wray; brother-in-law John Smith and a grandson Jamin Wray, son of Dennis and Christine Wray.

We your children will rejoice in the memories of a kind and loving father, who by his life taught us faith in God. His life was a life of service wherever he lived and was satisfied with simple, basic needs.

We thank you Dad, for your wonderful example of faith, patience, humility, and your esteeming others better than yourself.

Alan, Teresa and I are so sorry to hear about your Dad. Our prayers are with you. Seems like yesterday we were all going to Centropolis Grade School. We had so much fun, didn't we?! We just about wore the Sorry game out at lunch time....they are some of my best memories of childhood. Please know we are thinking about you. Sincerely, Becky(Myers) O'Connor, Alan Myers, Teresa Dillon and Mom (she is 96).
