I had the honor of interviewing David for the "Kansas Stories of the Vietnam War" oral history project. He was a lovely man with so many wonderful stories to tell about his service. What a rich life he led! It was a privilege to have known him.

Recalling the good professor warms my heart. It was my fortune to have been his friend. He was simply marvelous, and I had great respect for him. There are more who would agree with me than I could count, and yet I say so uneasily as he would never have sought such praise. Many are we who cross cultures and international boundaries, but few return as enriched and respectful of others as did David. The record shows that he reveled in the beauty of languages, yet he deserves to most be remembered for his belief in the inevitable progress of humankind and how he furthered us through his humanity and his kindness. We succeed when we follow his ways. My sincere condolences go out to his family and loved ones.
The joys I´ve had in knowing you will last my whole life through.

Professor Dinneen was one of my favorite French teachers at KU. He helped me receive the Junior Year Abroad scholarship to Bordeaux, France. I always admired his knowledge and enthusiasm. He was a true francophile. My deepest condolences to his loved ones; may they experience the peace that only Christ Jesus can give.
