Dale Hughes Obituary

Dale Eldon Hughes, Lawrence, 83, passed away on November 1, 2017, at Pioneer Ridge in Lawrence, surrounded by family.

Dale was born on November 30, 1933 near Waverly, Kansas to Jennie and Erwin "Pop" Hughes

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, brother Floyd, brother Jim and infant daughter Diane.

Dale enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family and really enjoyed his time on golf courses across the country. Dale was an avid pool player and hosted many tournaments with his friends at his home.

Dale attended school in Waverly and graduated from Waverly High School. While in school he was a star basketball and football player, and was a member of the local 4-H Club. He promised his parents that he wouldn't get married until he was 18 and the day after his 18th birthday, Dale and Betty got married.

Dale worked on a construction crew and at a local gas station until he went to work for Algonquin Missouri Chemical Company. Dale started as a chemical delivery driver, stayed with the company and worked his way up to Plant Manager at several locations in multiple States before retiring in 1990 and moving back to Lawrence, Kansas.

Dale enjoyed traveling with Betty in their motorhome in the winter time and eventually spent almost every winter in Casa Grande, Arizona.

Dale is survived by his wife Betty, daughters Beverly (husband Wayne), Pamela, (husband Steven). Dale is Papa to 4 grandchildren and Great Papa to 4 great grandchildren.

Dale's unlimited energy, sense of humor, joy for life (and the golf course) and his stories will be greatly missed.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 4, 2017, at the Jones Funeral Home, Burlington. The family will meet with friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Burial will be in the Waverly Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, and sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, P.O. Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839.

Dale and his wife Betty were life savers when we both lived in New Orleans.
Im wanting to find Bev or Pam and reconnect. I had their names at one time on my Christmas list.
Please reply if you get this.

Dear Betty & family, I'm so sorry for your loss of your beloved Dale. I'm so happy I got to meet both of you when I moved to Lawrence in 2013...Remember, I rode my bike to your home to visit you...plus enjoyed going to a couple ballgames with you at the park on the way to the lake. Then at your home auction, I bought your LARGE blue duck & rocking horse picture which hung above your sofa....now it hangs above mine & I always have special thoughts of your sweetness! You both were a super wonderful couple & sweet kind people!! My sympathy to you & yours, hugs, prayers & Gods comfort always! With Gods love, Ruth
