Funeral Services for Dr. Dale Wesley Friesen, 71 of Lawrence, KS will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence, KS. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. He passed away following a brief illness on June 26, 2018 surrounded by his family.

Dale was born March 12, 1947 in American Falls, Idaho, the son of Wilmer and Ellen (Wedel) Friesen, where he was raised on a potato & dairy farm. He was a 1965 graduate of American Falls High school and in 2005, he was inducted into the Heritage Club Hall of Fame by the American Falls Education Foundation as a distinguished alumnus. In 1965 he left the farm and attended Bethel College in North Newton, KS where he completed his undergraduate studies in biology. He completed medical school and his anesthesiology residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1976.

Dale and Connie were married in 1969 and moved to Lawrence, KS in 1976 where they raised their 2 sons. Dale was the founding partner of Lawrence Anesthesia, PA and the first Board Certified MD in Anesthesia in Lawrence, KS. He worked as an Anesthesiologist at Lawrence Memorial Hospital for 39 years, retiring in 2015. Dale was well known for his raging love of Kansas basketball and football, attending most every game for the past 40 years. He adored his wife Connie of 49 years and his two sons. Spending time with and boasting about his four grandchildren brought Dale incredible joy.

Dale's survivors include, his wife, Connie, sons, Jeff (Amy) and Ryan (Hope) Friesen, four grandchildren, Nathan (17), Hattie (16), Madeline (15), Brynn (13), sister, Margie Chartrand, and step-mother, Laura Friesen.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Contributions may be made in his name to Lawrence Memorial Endowment Fund or KU Endowment Fund and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

John and I are thinking of you at this terribly sad time. We both loved Dale! He was a fine gentleman, and wonderful family man. Anyone that knew him, knew how much he cared for you and his children, and OH the grandchildren were the apple of his eye!! What a wonderful life he led!

I am a nurse that worked with Dr Friesen at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Many times when he would arrive in the clinic, his face would light up and he would pull out his phone to show new pictures of his grandchildren. He was so very proud of them and would update us on cute things they would say or be doing. It was obvious that his family was the most important thing on earth to him and that he loved his wife, children and grandchildren very much.

Connie and family my sincere condolences to you guys. Knew Dale from golfing with him many times. He was always a gentleman and his loss is not only sad to his family but his many friends. When playing the 4th hole at the then Alvamar Public Golf Course I would see Dale out taking care of his flowers, pool etc. God bless you all.

Dr Friesen was a gem of a man and a wonderful physician - I'm so honored to have had the pleasure to work with him for several years - he was one of my very favorite doctors to work with.....I just learned of his passing and I am SO sorry for your loss - he will be incredibly missed. We are so sorry for your loss. Dr. Friesen was one of the sweetest people I have ever met. He will be missed. We were so excited when we were able to make the trips to South Carolina to the condo. It was so fun talking to him about it.
