Daisey P. Deay

Daisey P. Deay, age 100, of Baldwin City, April 6, 2013, at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation. She was born January 5, 1913 in Buckner, Missouri, the daughter of Henry McCrary and Lydia May (Bittle) McCrary. Daisey has lived in the Baldwin City area since the age of twelve. She earned her 8th grade certificate from the Leavenworth School District.

She worked at several retail establishments throughout her lifetime including Weaver's in Lawrence, Betty B's Dress Shop in Baldwin City, and Ford's I.G.A. in Baldwin City. Daisey was also well known in the community for her incredible seamstress work. For many years she was the seamstress leader for Vinland Valley 4-H and helped to name the 4-H group after the Vinland Valley. She was also very well known as a caring and lovable baby sitter.

On October 12, 1934 Daisey was united in marriage to John William "Bill" Deay at Oskaloosa, Kansas. Bill preceded her in death on May 6, 1974.

She is also preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; and a granddaughter, De Ann Miller and her husband, Chuck; and great grandson, Beau Miller.

Daisey is survived by two daughters, Arylis Neal and her husband, Don, Desoto, Alice Rockhold and her husband, Leonard, Baldwin City; three granddaughters, April Parfitt and her husband, Jack, Eudora, Julie Tesch and her husband, Mark, Baldwin City, Stacey Leslie Baldwin City; and three great grandchildren, Sunney Marie Tesch, Paige Leslie, and Blake Leslie.



Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Deay Cemetery, rural Douglas County. Mrs. Deay will lay in state at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Baldwin City from 5p.m. Wednesday to the visitation hour. The family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association or Grace Hospice, c/o Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 64 Baldwin City, Kansas. Condolences may be sent to the family through www.lamb-roberts.com.

So sorry to read about this today. I have so many wonderful Vinland memories and they mostly involve Daisy and the girls. They will always be a part of my life. I know she will be missed.
