Cyril Bauer Obituary

Cyril (Cy) Bauer, 97, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Tuesday, May 29th, 2012 at the Harmony Gardens Assisted Living Center in Warrensburg, Missouri. Funeral services will be Friday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warrensburg, with burial on Saturday, June 2, at 11:30 a.m. in Viney Creek Cemetery in Golden, Missouri. Cyril was born August 13, 1914, in Montrose, Missouri, the oldest of eight children to Christopher and Rose Bauer. The family moved to northern Illinois, eventually settling in Sycamore. Cy began work as a mail boy at Anaconda Wire & Cable Co in Sycamore, Illinois. He worked at that job from 1928 to 1933 while he was going to school. Cyril also became an Eagle Scout during those years. It was in 1933, too, that he became a licensed radio operator, an interest that he maintained all his life. After graduation from high school, Cy went to work in the mill at Anaconda, later transferring to the accounting department. After many years in Sycamore he transferred to the Harrisonville, Missouri plant in 1964. He married the love of his life, Virginia May Cornwall on August 5, 1938, in Sycamore, Illinois. Their first home was a Sears Kit Home (The Wilshire). They then built their home in Harrisonville and before he retired built a home on Table Rock Lake in Golden, Missouri, where they began a home craft business and traveled to many craft shows in the Missouri and Arkansas area. Cyril always wanted Virginia to live in a new home. Cyril and Virginia were avid bridge players. He also built many radio control airplanes and loved to fly them, especially with his granddaughter Sarah. He was liked and respected by all who knew him, and really enjoyed his time living at Harmony Gardens. Cy treasured the many friendships he developed with the students, faculty and administrators he met at the university. Cyril became a great fan and supporter of the UCM athletic teams and loved getting his #97 football jersey on his birthday last August. Visitation will be at Sweeney-Phillips Holdren Funeral Home 6:30-8:00 p.m. on Thursday night, May 31. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:30. Memorial contributions may be made to University of Central Missouri Athletics or Priests of the Sacred Heart/Sacred Heart Monastery in care of the funeral home. Survivors include three sons, Michael Bauer ( Janice), Cushing, WI.; Stephen Bauer (Alison), Baldwin City, KS.; Thomas Bauer (Glinda), Tyler, TX.; two daughters, Susan Thorup (John), Overland Park, KS,: Mary Dandurand (Joseph), Warrensburg,MO, 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
