I was a freelance proofreader for Conkie many years ago. From there I went into 45 years of book publishing. I always credit her painstaking feedback in turning me into a very good proofreader and copy editor. I loved her independent spirit. I'm very sorry to read of her death. My heartfelt condolences to Arly and their children.

I will miss Conkie! She remained very independent, despite her stroke! Her eyes 'sparkled' when she smiled! She had a very loving & supportive family & you are all in my thoughts & prayers! Deirdre-she was so blessed to have you in her life!! We'll miss all of you!

I was so sorry to hear of Conky's passing. Sister-in-law Jennifer sent me a link to the LJW obit with that wonderful description of your first meeting Conky, your first vision as she skipped into your life. That's how I remember her too. The photo there brought me right back to our Palace days. Nostalgia is not a wholesome frame of mind, but I'm thinking a lot about Conky, Duffy, Martha and Judy today. I'm feeling bereft of the brightness they all brought to us. We were very lucky dudes, and that's said even without amplifying the feeling by recalling Mike and Ken. Let's honor them all by hanging in there best we can. Not so long ago I read that the saddest thing about history is that, eventually, everything is forgotten. Well, by golly, it won't be so as long as we are here and in possession of these abundant and sustaining memories.
