My sympathy to Mr. Townsend's family. He was a good man. He saved my father's life and I would like to share this story : in 1961 Mr. Townsend and my father Ed Mechavich were linemen for Kansas Power and Light Co. in Lawrence.. They were both at the top of a light pole together doing detailed work when my dad's left boot hook slipped, he grabbed for something to keep from falling and, unfortunately , grabbed the live wire above him. My dad was electrocuted , Mr. Townsend was quick and decisive, he used a crowbar to wack my dad's hand away from the wire to break the current. Mr. Townsend helped to get my dad back to the ground for emergency crew. Mr. Townsend saved my dad's life and I thank him every day in my prayers.
