Charles McKay Obituary

Charles "Chuck" G. McKay, 81, of Bonner Springs, KS passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral Mass services will be at 9:30 am, Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Basehor, KS with entombment to follow in Gate of Heaven Mausoleum in Kansas City, KS. A visitation was held from 5 to 8 pm, Wed., May 2, at the Alden - Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, KS where the Rosary was at 6 pm. Mr. McKay was born on Aug. 23, 1930 in Kansas City, KS and was a lifelong Kansas resident. He had previously worked as a Railroad Switchman for the Kansas City Terminal and as a Sales Manager for Rocksboro Hosiery Co. retiring from both in about 1970. Later in the 1970's he worked in sales for Dorell Insulation Co. in Kansas City, KS before he started his own construction company in 1983, M and M Construction and later McKay Inc. He was an avid horseman whose lifelong love of horses included rodeoing and training race horses. He often said he felt he was born 150 years too late since he was a true "Cowboy" at heart, and so enjoyed riding in the American Royal Parade. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Myrtle McKay and his stepfather John T. Parker and a daughter Jan Ventura in 2010. And is survived by his wife of 62 years Patricia A. McKay of the home. 3 children Deborah Taylor and her husband Terry of Overland Park, KS; Teresa Mauldin of Pittsburg, MO and Donald R. McKay and his wife Sheri of Bonner Springs, KS. One sister Rosie Borchardt of Pittsburg, KS. 6 grandchildren- Brian, Katie, Amy, Matthew, Brent and Mallory and one great granddaughter. Three nieces and 6 great nieces and nephews all of Pittsburg, KS

"The Duke" has a new buddy up there today... Mr. McKay was a character as real as they come. Wish you all the best in the days and weeks to come in dealing with the loss of a good man.

Pat & Donnie We just learned of Charle's passing this morning. Our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to both of you and your family. Charles always made me laugh and each day for me a little better when I would see him. May he always be with you and kept alive in the memories you have and stories you share with one another. You are in our thoughts and prayers. May God bring you peace and comfort during this time.
