I only remember meeting Charlie once, at the family reunion in arkansas in 1999. It was right after I had graduated from high school. And I was in a motorcycle accident shortly before graduation. I do remember always hearing stories about how we had a great athlete in the family, and my dad would always tell me how great Charlie was in all things he attempted in life, not only sports. He's in a better place now, there's no pain anymore. My condolences to the rest of the family.

My Dad, Clyde Lovellette, handed me a copy of your Dad's obituary & asked me to send you all a little note. (Dad doesn't have a computer so I agreed.)
Dad was very thankful that he had the opportunity to visit your Dad the last time he was in Kansas.
He wanted you all to know you have been in his thoughts and prayers.
Dad shared quite a bit of time with Charlie & has some wonderful memories of the time they spent together.
My Dad said, "I'm going to miss Charlie....I think the whole team will miss Charle."
"Charlie was my roommate at KU and we used to play a lot of pinball....if we could find a pinball machine! He had a great wit and was just fun to be around."
Our sympathy to you all on the loss of your Father.

It was great to be able to share a couple of years as a basketball teammate of Charlie at The University of Kansas.Charlie was very special and all of us looked up to him.
Charlie was a junior when I was a freshman. Somewhere along the way he was given the nick name " Maxie " by teammates on 52 Basketball Champs.
I do not recall the connection. Charlie was not only a gifted athlete
but a very handsome, "cool hand Luke"
type that could always handle the situation.
Charlie is truly a "Jayhawk" legend.
We share our condolences, but want to concentrate upon the fact that the world got to enjoy him for 80 years.

I worked for a brief time in the Williams Fund office and always enjoyed it when Charlie drove in from Topeka to visit or for the games. He was such a joy to be around. He loved KU. I have thought of him often and always with a smile. May your memories bring you comfort during this difficult time.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Hoag's passing. Death is never an easy situation. Psalms 46:1 helps us to see that God is a refugee and strength in times of distress. Please rely on Him and he will strengthen you.
