Carrie Hildenbrand Obituary

Carrie Ann (Zibell) Hildenbrand, 62, passed peacefully from this world on June 11, 2025, at her beloved home near Lawrence, Kansas, surrounded by her adoring family. She was born on June 20, 1962, in Holton, Kansas, to William "Bill" and Phyllis (Tudor) Zibell, and was raised on the family farm. She attended Holton High School, playing softball, basketball, and volleyball, in addition to being a cheerleader, Homecoming Queen, and President of her class. She attended Kansas State University before graduating from the University of Kansas with a degree in Medical Records Administration. She received an MA in Adult Education from UMKC and spent her professional career in the field of Health Information Management at Stormont-Vail Hospital, the University of Kansas Medical Center, several clinical data organizations, and finished her career at Watkins Health Services on the KU campus.

Carrie married Greg Hildenbrand on October 17, 1987, in Holton. They lived happily together in Lawrence. She was heavily involved with the many activities of her children, was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Lawrence and of Chapter IK of the PEO Sisterhood. She was loved by many for her adventurous spirit, tireless service, and cheerful demeanor.

Carrie is survived by her husband, Greg, of the home; daughter, Grace Demmon (Rick), of Shreveport, Louisiana; and son, Reid, of Lawrence. Other survivors include her father, Bill, and brother, Gary (Becky), both of Holton. She was preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis.

Carrie died of complications from a brain tumor initially diagnosed in 2006. She handled the various treatments and challenges with the same grace, optimism, and even-tempered manner she faced everything in life.

A visitation will be held at Warren-McElwain Mortuary on Sunday, June 15, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm followed by a memorial service at the First United Methodist Church, 946 Vermont Street in Lawrence, on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 10:30 am. A second visitation will be at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton on Monday, June 16, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Private inurnment will follow at the Holton Cemetery.

Carrie was one of the sweetest most genuine people I have ever met. I am so thankful that I got to know her and work with her at Watkins. She adored her family and would tell us about every adventure they were looking forward to, she will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Robin Prososki
