Carol Broughton Obituary

Carol Yvonne Broughton, born to Carl and Hilda Irene Schwarz 3/3/1929 in Home City Kansas, died 8/3/2018. Carol is preceded in death by her husband Herbert Joseph Ring Jr, her husband Jere Lee Broughton, sons Richard Steven Ring and James Robert Ring, brother Merlyn Schwarz, and grandson Christopher Joseph Ring.

Grade school in Home City Kansas and High School in Marysville Kansas, working at South Western Bell and the Montgomery Ward Office, she met Herbert Ring Jr. whom she married 4/15/1948. From the farm life they moved to Topeka in 1956. Carol worked as a drug and alcohol counselor for both Topeka State Hospital and Saint Francis hospitals. Herb developed bladder cancer and died 1/7/1977. He is interred with his sons at St Gregory's cemetery in Marysville, Kansas.

Six years later Carol met and married Jere L. Broughton, a retired Topeka Fire Fighter working at Falley's Grocers as a meat cutter. Married on 2/12/1983 they moved to McAllen, Texas in 1986. Jere pursued car restoration and Carol became the Program Director for Charter Palms Hospital. They retired to Springfield, Missouri in 1998

Jere developed Alzheimer's and both moved to an Independent living facility in Lawrence Kansas to be near family. Under the care of Hospice, Jere died 10/8/2017. He is interred with his mother in West Lawn Cemetery, Topeka, Kansas. Carol remained in independent living in Lawrence. She will be interred with her husband Herb and sons at St. Gregory's in Marysville, Kansas.

Carol is survived by her son Stanley J. Ring and wife Mary Ann Ring, two grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Hall (Brian Hall) Olathe, Kansas and Matthew Ring (Nithya Sowrirajan) New York, New York and 4 great grandchildren, Nathan Hall, Garrett Hall, Anushka Ring, and Neal Ring. Mass to be held Saturday Aug 25, 9:00 am, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Lawrence, Kansas. Grave side services in Marysville, Kansas at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to St. Gregory's Catholic cemetery in Marysville Kansas in her name.
