Carl Carvell Obituary

MYSTIC - It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Carl Gustaf Carvell on Feb 1, 2026, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Carl was born to Gustaf and Eleanor Carvell in Paterson, NJ on August 26, 1936. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Amy; his children and their spouses, Dana and Scott Leach, Gail and Nick Johnson, and Chip and Heather Carvell; and his six grandchildren, Connor and Ryan Leach, Ellie and Ben Johnson, and Gus and Vaughn Carvell. He was predeceased by his sisters Grace Andrews and Sigrid Bott.

Carl was a devoted father who took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, his meticulous care for all that he did, and his belief in the goodness of people. Though he did not tend to be the loudest voice at the table, he was a great conversationalist who listened well and stood firm in his beliefs, with quiet yet quirky humor and a twinkle in his eyes. He was a do-it-yourselfer who spent countless hours working on the house, the yard, and his cars. He was a member of the Austin-Healey Club of New England, where he and Amy enjoyed rallies and spending time with other enthusiasts.

Trained as a mechanical engineer at Purdue University and with a MMS from Stevens Institute of Technology, Carl worked at Pratt and Whitney for thirty-five years before retiring in 1999. He and Amy lived and raised their family in Glastonbury, CT before moving full time to Weekapaug, RI in 2011. Over the years, he was active in the local community in Weekapaug, where he served as Commodore of the Yacht Club and Moderator of the Fire District. He and Amy were also founding members of The Weekapaug Golf Club. In 2020 they moved to StoneRidge retirement community in Mystic, CT where they were embraced by new friends while remaining close to those in Weekapaug.

A memorial service will be held at StoneRidge on February 21st at 1:30. All are welcome to join us in this celebration of Carl's life.

A generous spirit, Carl was a firm believer in the power of volunteerism and importance of education. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made either to the StoneRidge Scholarship Fund, so that others can more easily gain the benefits of higher education, or to the New England Air Museum where he volunteered as a docent for many years.

Donations in his memory can be made to:

StoneRidge Scholarship Fund. Checks should be made out to the StoneRidge Scholarship Fund and mailed to StoneRidge, 186 Jerry Browne Rd., Mystic, CT 06355.

New England Air Museum. Checks should be made out to the New England Air Museum and mailed to New England Air Museum, 36 Perimeter Rd., Windsor Locks, CT 06096.

Dear Amy and family,
We have such fond memories of the times we met Carl. We especially remember the wonderful lobster dinners, the rides in his Austin-Healey, and the warmth he shared with us. Those moments meant a great deal to us.
With love from Sweden.
