Bruce Robertson Obituary

HMC Edward Bruce Robertson, USN (Ret) passed away on October 19, 2018 in Redding, California. He is survived by his daughter, Dodie Carey of Redding, a sister, Frances Sanford of Lecompton, KS, and three grandchildren. Bruce was preceded in death by his first wife Ann Robertson, a son, Russell Robertson, and second wife Sheri Robertson.

Bruce was born on April 28, 1928 in Kansas City, MO and adopted by William and Hannah Jane (Stewart) Robertson. He grew up in Lawrence and moved to Topeka after 8th grade. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1945 and joined the Navy. He served as a medic in WWII, Vietnam, and Korea. In Korea, he was assigned to the Marines HMR 161 Helicopter Rescue Squad. In 1954, he was assigned briefly to the Marine Corp Base in Barstow, CA. The highway patrol would often call on him to pick up and treat car accident victims as they were the only medical facility nearby. Later, he was assigned to the USS Carter Hall LSD3. In 1959, he became Chief Master of Arms. He retired and transferred to Fleet Reserves in 1968 with 25 years of service.

Bruce had a passion for photography and worked at Crown Camera repairing cameras in his retirement. He also volunteered at Mercy Medical Center in Redding from 2008-2014. A celebration of life with full Naval honors was held November 16th.
