Billy Routh Obituary

Billy Joe Routh, 91, of Baldwin City, KS died Saturday, May 20, 2023 in his home.

He was born December 1, 1931 in Humansville, Missouri the son of Luther Guy and Lessie Mae (Swindler) Routh. Billy grew up in the Humansville community and moved to the Baldwin City area in 1954, after his marriage.

On August 15, 1954, Billy was united in marriage to Mavis Steward at the Christian Church in Humansville, MO. They shared 60 years of marriage until Mavis's passing in October 2014.

Billy served in the United States Army from August 1952 through July 1954 attaining the rank of Corporal, during the Korean War. He then worked as a laborer for Constant Construction Company and Brown Brothers Construction building commercial buildings as well as roadways and bridges.

Billy was a member of the Olathe VFW. He enjoyed country music, and played the bass in bands. Billy liked tinkering and fixing things, which led to his side job as a TV repairman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Lessie Routh; his wife, Mavis Routh; a son-in-law, Michael Medlen; two brothers, Ray Routh and Junior Routh; and three sisters, Lois Floyd, Ruby Fox, and Jewell Hargis.

He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Medlen of Lawrence, KS, and Carol Grammer and her husband, Michael, of Eudora, KS; a son, Chris Routh and his wife, Jacquie, of Topeka, KS; 8 grandchildren, Bill, Chris, and Stacy Medlen, Rheanna and Brent Routh, Cassie Blackwell, and Melissa Miller and Chelsea Webb; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 12:30 p.m., Friday June 2, 2023 at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Fort Leavenworth, KS. Condolences may be sent to the family through www.lamb-roberts.com.
