Bill Nye Obituary
He was born Jan. 9, 1941, in Clay Center, Kan., the son of William M. Nye and Gladys Lundquist. He graduated from Clay Center High School, and later served in the United States Air Force. Bill was in the floral business, and owned and operated Nye's Flowers, Flower Market, and the Kansas School of Floral Design. He was an active member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Baldwin City. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, family, church activities, and KU basketball.
He married Ruth Bauer. To this union, Debbie Nye and Billy Nye were born. They later divorced. He married Pam Singletary. To this union, Dustin Nye was born. They later divorced. He married Sue Torneden, who preceded him in death in 1998. He was also preceded in death by three siblings, Bud Nye, Wilma Edge, and Don Nye. He is survived by his three children and one grandson, Preston Nye, all of Lawrence.

Bill was married to my grandma Sue when I was a kid. He will always be remembered as the Smarties guy. We lost touch for a few years but we recently went back to church with him and it was so nice getting to talk to him. I'm glad that he got to meet my daughter. I'm sure he's telling my grandma all about her. Bill will be very missed.

I was one of Bill's floral design students. Afterward I spent many years in the industry. He was a great teacher and a good person. I'm sorry to hear of his passing.
