Betty Collier Obituary

Betty Lee Collier, 94, of Kansas City, MO died February 22, but she told everyone she was from Lawrence, KS and a proud Jayhawk fan.

She was born in 1926 in Nash, Oklahoma to Elmer and Irene Potter. She was the much pampered only girl who adored her brothers Jack and Don. Betty met and fell in love with Creig Collier while they were students at the University of Oklahoma. They were married for 61 years when he died in 2008. They both so enjoyed sharing their love for golf, bridge, travel with friends, and most of all time with their extended family.

A fiercely proud matriarch, Betty delighted in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grand children and was an amazing listener who never tired of hearing about their lives. The family surprised her on her 80th birthday party by wearing matching t-shirts stamped with the phrase "I am Mom's favorite" to reflect her singular ability to make each of them feel special. She was our North Star.

Betty is survived by her daughter Tommye Sexton (Stan) of Kansas City, MO, and her son Kelly Collier (Laurie) of Boquete, Panama and her grandchildren Beau Sean Collier (Kari) Memphis TN, Asa Collier of Lawrence, Chris Sexton (Christopher Lominska) of Fairway KS, and Jay Sexton (Julie Wood) of Columbia, MO. She adored her seven great grandchildren, Caden Collier, Maya Collier, Arlo Collier, Sophie Lominska, Georgia Sexton, Ben Lominska, and Stella Sexton.

Betty will be buried with her husband at the Leavenworth National Cemetery in a family gathering in the fall. The family asks that contributions be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Kingswood Senior Living Foundation (1000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO) or a charity of your choice.

Betty was a good friend and my golf buddy for over 30 years traveling to different places to play. We had many fun times over the years.

When my Sister Terrye, Brother "Bo" and I were little children we felt like Aunt Betty and Uncle Craig were our second parents. Tommye and Kelly were more like a sister and brother. We are so blessed to have such sweet memories. Aunt Betty always encouraged us to be and do more with life and we loved her so very much! She will be so missed!

Dear Tommy and Stan,

So sorry to hear of Betty's death. I played bridge with and against her for many years. We played a social game every other Monday afternoon with a group of our friends and met at the sanctioned game table at least once a week until she moved to Kansas City. She was a sweet, funny lady. We all miss her and have followed her life since she left. Please know that she was well loved in Lawrence and has many friends still here.

I have so many fond memories of playing golf and bridge with Betty at Lawrence Country Club. Perhaps another is watching she and Craig dance and boy could they dance. RIP Sweet Lady

Tommye, I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother. Although I only met her a few times I remember her as very vivacious and welcoming. What a great Mom to have!
