Betty Brokaw Obituary
Our Heavenly Father enfolded Betty in His loving arms and took her home July 20, 2025. Betty was born January 13, 1931 in Coffeyville KS. She was the third child of Herman Adam Sitz and Alma Eva (Herman) Sitz. Her siblings were Evelyn Sitz and William Sitz. Betty was a lifelong Lutheran, having been baptized, confirmed, and married at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Coffeyville, KS. She and Robert Owen Brokaw were married at that church on August 27, 1950. Betty graduated from Coffeyville High School in 1948 and was a member of the Tornadoes Drum Corp. For most of her working years, Betty was a legal secretary in Coffeyville, KS, and in Lawrence, KS. Betty took great pride in her German heritage and spent time researching her family's history, enjoying gene- alogy work. Betty enjoyed antique shops, collecting cut glass and depression glass. She was also a fan of professional football (KC Chiefs) and kept her mind sharp by working crossword and sudoku puzzles. She stayed up to date on family affairs, current events, and politics through the end of her life. Betty was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Rodgers Arkansas since 2014, and maintained her membership until her passing. While attending, she volunteered in various areas along with attending regular worship.
Betty's parents, siblings, husband, and daughter (Cari) have predeceased her. Survivors include her son, Erik Brokaw, his wife Wanda (Hastings) Bro- kaw, and their children John Whipple III, wife Kristen (Day) Whipple, Heather (Brokaw) Haub, husband Jordan Haub, Jonathan Brokaw, Laura (Whipple) Mosley, and husband Logan Mosley. including great-grand- children; Maddox Whi- pple, Charlee Whipple, Lily Mosley, Jackson Mosley, and Everett Mosley.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 27th, 2025 @ 10:30am at the "Veterans Patio" located at Fairview Cemetery (2602 Wood- land Avenue) Coffeyville KS. Immediately follow- ing the service, attendees are welcome to drive and attend a short graveside committal at Restlawn Cemetery (2000 Wood- land Avenue) where Betty's cremains and her daughter Cari's cremains will be laid to rest in the Brokaw family plot. (Lot D (Veterans), space 4 & 6)
