Anna Howland Obituary

Anna May Howland

Anna May Howland died at the home of her son, Craig Cochran on Friday morning April 18, 2014 in Lawrence, Kansas . She was 92 years old. Miss Annie, as she was known to friends, was dearly loved for her generosity, warm hospitality and engaging personality. She is survived by her son Craig Cochran, his wife Dianne, their children Jessica and Jordan Cochran and his wife Lauren. Her four brothers preceded her in death.

Anna May Fishburn was born in Lebanon, KY in 1921. A child of the depression, she began working full-time in her early teens and continued working until her retirement in 1986. She was married three times. In 1948, Anna May moved to Southern California with her second husband, Jeff Cochran. In 1988, shortly after the death of her third husband, Ken Howland, she moved to Kansas to be with her son and his family.

Anna May's genuine concern for others was constantly demonstrated through her many acts of kindness and love. She cared for the sick, supported the weak and shared everything she had. Her keen sense of humor, bright smile and infectious laughter were uplifting to all.

In 1995, at the age of 73, Anna was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She associated with the East Congregation in Hutchinson until she moved to Lawrence and the Southern Hills Congregation in 1998. Due to illness, her association and activity was limited in recent years. However, her faith and interest in spiritual matters remained strong.

A memorial service for Miss Annie will be held Saturday April 26th at 2:00PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 1802 E. 19th, Lawrence, KS 66046.

To Annie's family my thoughts are with you. The first time I meet Annie I knew she was a very special lady. I always enjoyed the visits we had.I'm so sorry I never came down to your house to let her know I still thought of her. I know she has left a great void in your lives. You will be in my thoughts for the days to come. Denise Stauffer your neighbor 4920 Jefferson Way
