Emmett & Marie Ditzler
November 12, 2014
I grew up with Anna. She was my dad's sister and we spent many times together. One time she drew my picture in pencil while I was a child and napping. When I was at KU, she would meet me at the Union and we would have a coke. Later when I was married she would drive to our house for Sunday dinners and always brought her dogs named Truda I, Truda II and Truda III. Later when she was older, Emmett and I would go to Lawrence about every 2 weeks and we would go out to eat in Lawrence. We had wonderful visits. She loved it when we discovered traits we had in common and she liked to remind me that I was "Belgian". We think of her often and have many wonderful memories.

Every year growing up I would receive a small Christmas card signed "Aunt Anna". That was the only thing it ever said, and I looked forward to them every year. Years later we corresponded frequently and I always looked forward to her letters and the intriguing things she always had to say.

I wish I had lived closer to and spent more time with Aunt Anna. I always enjoyed my phone conversations with her and have saved the letters she sent me. There is no doubt in my mind why she was known as "the sage of Alabama Street."
