Alvin K. Pickens

Alvin K. Pickens, 61, Lawrence passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at his home.

He was born March 22, 1952 in Leavenworth, KS the son of Alvy and Dorothy (Smith) Pickens.

He worked for D & D Tire and worked in tire industry for 30 years. He more recently worked in maintenance for Midwest Properties.

He married Barbara Rose Pennewell on February 7, 1979. They shared 34 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Wesley and Darrell Pickens.

Survivors include his children, Wesley Pickens and wife, Samantha, Billie Chamberlin, Monica Pickens, Jeni Pickens and Geoffery Beers; 13 grandchildren and many good friends.

A memorial gathering will be held at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Friday, November 22, 2013 from 4-6 p.m. The family will have a private inurnment at a later date in Hubbell Hill Cemetery in Tonganoxie.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Alvin Pickens Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

Monica, I am so sorry to hear of your Fathers passing. I know how hard it is to lose a parent. You have my most heart felt sympathy for you and the rest of your family.
