Alena Scheidt Obituary
Alena Mae (Tinberg) Scheidt, of Linwood, KS, died peacefully at her home on January 29, 2014 – her 86th birthday. Alena Mae was born in Bonner Springs, KS in 1928 and was the third child of Elmer and Clara (Smith) Tinberg. Growing up, she enjoyed being a drum majorette for her high school and graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1945 and continued to be involved in many high school reunions with her classmates. She married Otto Scheidt, Jr. in 1947. She was a beloved mother of two sons, Keith Scheidt and Kirk Scheidt. She worked as a bookkeeper for Tucker Hardware in Kansas City, KS for over 20 years. Alena Mae enjoyed "puttering around" her house and taking vacations with her family to national parks and camping excursions. She truly enjoyed her long vacations to Colorado with her family and spending time with close friends and relatives.
Alena Mae is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers Delmar Tinberg and Leroy (Bud) Tinberg. She is survived by her sons, Keith Scheidt (Wendy) of Bonner Springs, KS and Kirk Scheidt (Marcy) of Buena Vista, CO. She was a devoted grandmother of Megan Scheidt Gilliland (Chad) of Tonganoxie; Colby Scheidt (Kimberly) of Bonner Springs; Bryan Laughlin (Amanda) of Aurora, CO; Bobby Laughlin (Jamie) of Aurora, CO; and Adam Laughlin (Jolene) of Aurora, CO; and Kevin Scheidt of Buena Vista, CO. She had 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation and funeral services were held on Saturday, February 1 at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs from 10 a.m to Noon. A graveside service followed at Bonner Springs Cemetery.
Alena Mae was a kind, gentle spirit who worked tirelessly to provide for her family. She was a gracious friend who enjoyed visiting and reminiscing about old times. Her needs in life were modest; but her gifts of kindness, love and happiness were grand. May she rest in peace with her family in Heaven and celebrate the long, fulfilled life she lived.
