Bert and I used to have coffee weekdays at St. John's. Together, although Bert provided most of the input, we would solve all the world's problems before 9:00 am, only to have to solve the same problems as well as new ones the next day. Perhaps because of the farm and sheep ranching, he added a good deal of common sense in solving the problems at hand--always with a sense of humor. He and Marge actively promoted community, keeping the coffee klatch at St. John's going through their presence. Of course, it helped that he looked like Sean Connery. Unlike James Bond, he stayed close to Marge, the love of his life. I will miss him.
