Albert Hitchcock Obituary

Albert E. "Bert" Hitchcock

Albert E. "Bert" Hitchcock, the son of Gordon A. and Luella (Corliss) Hitchcock, was born on the family ranch in Kit Carson County, Colorado on June 2, 1932. He passed away on December 25, 2012 at Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, Kansas.

Bert married Delma Meall at Cawker City, Kansas on September 2, 1956. She survives of the home. Also surviving; son Steve of Baldwin City, daughter Teri Tankel and husband Ron of Overland Park, Kansas, daughter Jodi Hitchcock of Lawrence, Kansas, and grandchildren Jordan Tankel and Sam Tankel. Also surviving are sister-in-law Jackie Hitchcock, brother-in-law Bryan Meall and wife Dee, and several nieces and nephews.

Bert was raised and educated in Burlington, Colorado. He attended Kansas Wesleyan University at Salina, Kansas where he was a three-year letterman on the football team before serving in the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Greely, Alaska. After graduation, Bert began a long career in education, earning a master's degree from Kansas State University. He served Kansas schools in Oakley, Ashland, Russell, Ellsworth, and Baldwin City. He always said his best job was being a principal because he was with kids.

Bert was an active member of several professional and community civic organizations.

His 1929 Ford Model A Sport Coupe became his trademark and was a part of parades and family gatherings for over fifty years.

Bert was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church where he served in several positions and sang in a church choir for over fifty years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon A. and Luella Hitchcock, brother Merton A. Hitchcock, and sisters Rose Mae Tyrrell and Marie Hoskin.

Memorial services were held Saturday, December 29, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City, Kansas.
