Austin Lawther Obituary

Austin F. Lawther, 46, of Port Ewen, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 2nd, 2024.

Born on December 5th, 1977, in Islip, New York, Austin was the beloved son of Albert and Elizabeth (Ohlert) Lawther. He is survived by his devoted wife, Virginia Jane (née Riker), and their cherished sons, Austin Junior (AJ) and Benjamin Lexington (Lex). He is also survived by his father, Albert, his mother, Elizabeth, his brother Colin (Sandra), brother Gerard (Yopi), and nieces and nephews, Brandon, Kiera, Lance, and Lillian.

Austin's upbringing in Long Island, as the youngest of three brothers, fostered his passion for music and art from an early age. He found solace and joy in playing the drums, showcasing his talent in school performances and various musical endeavors, leaving behind a legacy of numerous recordings.

In 2006, fate intertwined his path with Virginia's at a concert, sparking a love story that would see them married in 2009. Their journey together blossomed with the arrival of their sons, AJ in 2013 and Lex in 2015, whom Austin adored beyond measure, delighting in their artistic and athletic pursuits.

His academic pursuits led him to Farmingdale for his undergraduate studies and later to Pratt Institute, where he earned his Master's degree in Design Management. There he honed his skills in design and business strategy, ultimately shaping a successful career as a designer at Nickelodeon and eventually Duarte.

Beyond his professional achievements, Austin's true impact was felt in the countless lives he touched with his creativity and authenticity. He forged enduring connections with fellow artists and musicians, cultivating lifelong friendships. An avid animal lover, especially fond of cats, he shared his home and heart with four beloved feline companions: Lucy, Sophie, Dizzle, and Darla.

As a son, brother, father, friend, and husband, Austin exemplified warmth, kindness, and unwavering loyalty. Renowned for his captivating eyes, a testament to his inner depth, he was also a remarkably talented musician, gracing stages across the island and the nation with his bands.

In every facet of his life, Austin radiated a rare kindness and generosity, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will be cherished and his spirit forever treasured.

There will be memorial services for Austin on Thursday, May 9th at 1pm at the South Nassau Unitarian Universalist Congregation.

I still remember the afternoon that Ginny sat in my kitchen and told me about meeting a man at a concert and how she thought he might be the one. Soon after I got to meet Austin and see the delight that he & Ginny took in each other. I was very honored that they asked me to officiate at their beautiful wedding, what a night that was. I´ve watched them grow as a couple, make two beautiful boys and build a creative and fulfilling life together. Sometimes life can be so cruel taking someone so young. I cannot say how sorry I am to hear of Austin`s passing.
Anni-Ming and I hold your sorrow in our hearts.
