LAWRENCE COOK Obituary

Lawrence J. Cook (Larry) passed away November 20, 2016. Larry was born on March 8, 1932 to Lawrence and Mary (Newland) Cook in Unionville, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Betty Blankenship and Joann Baughman. He was married to Wanda (Terry) Cook for 61 years. They have three children, David and wife Karen, of Independence, Missouri, Pam and husband Bob, of Liberty, Missouri and John and wife Bridget, of Elkton, Maryland, and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He attended MU, earning a Bachelor's in Education and a Master's of Specialist degrees in Adult and Continuing Education. Larry was employed by the Independence School District for more than 30 years. He taught at Truman High School and was the Director of Adult Education. Larry later worked for the Missouri Dept. of Education in Veterans Affairs. Larry was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lee's Summit. He was also a member of the Independence Rotary Club. Visitation will be at Speaks Suburban Chapel from 6–8pm on November 25. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Lee's Summit on November 26 at 10am.
