William Haselden Obituary

William C. Haselden, Sr. passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, after a long illness. Bill was born on January 6, 1935, in Shulerville S.C. to James C. and Lessie Haselden. He was the youngest of 10 children. After the family moved to Charleston, Bill attended Memminger Elementary School and Charleston High School. Afterward he attended Murray Vocational School for Drafting and Design. He later received his GED and attended Engineering classes at the Citadel.

On August 21, 1960, Bill married the love of his life, Syble Jean Martin. Bill became a Christian in 1966 and served the Lord joyfully all his life. He and Syble had two sons, Bill Jr. and Kenny. Kenny had many health problems and was given one to two years to live but God allowed him to life almost until his 13th birthday.

In 1972, Bill and the family moved to Summerville and attended Old Fort Baptist Church. A small group of men, including associate pastor Richard Kellum and Bill, wanted to start a mission on Miles Road which became Miles Road Baptist Church. Bill directed the choir and led the pastor search committee who called the first pastor. After a few years the family moved to Summerville Baptist Church where Bill served as a long-term deacon, led the cooking team for a number of years and helped with the wiring for the first Singing Christmas Tree. He also served in the Gideons and on the Charleston Southern University Board of Visitors.

Bill retired from the Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek, SC in 1997 where he worked as head of the Engineering Department. This career utilized his love for math and for design. He also retired from the S.C Army National Guard after serving for 23 years. After retirement, he started his own electrical contracting company which specialized in energy management, industrial, commercial, and residential electrical services.

Bill was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed by many. He was pre-deceased by his parents, his son James McKinley (Kenny) Haselden, and all his siblings. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Syble M Haselden of Summerville; son William C (Bill) Haselden, Jr. (Dale) also of Summerville; grandchildren Rachel (Chris) Reinhard of Jacksonville, FL. and Will (Diane) Haselden of Summerville; great-grandchildren Hailey Grace and Hunter Reinhard of Jacksonville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, with a visitation from 2-3pm and service starting at 3pm.
