David Shannon Obituary

David Walter "Dave" Shannon Dodgeville, WI - Dave Shannon, age 85, of Dodgeville, Wisconsin and formerly of Edgerton, Wisconsin and Surprise, Arizona, passed away surrounded by loved ones on March 2, 2026. Born in Janesville, Wisconsin, Dave lived a full and vibrant life - one that brought him, and everyone around him, immeasurable joy.

From an early age, Dave was a man of intention. At 18, he began building the life he always wanted - starting a marriage that would span 67 years, creating a family that would become his greatest pride and joy, and embarking on a proud career at General Motors in Janesville where he worked with loyalty and purpose until his retirement in 1999. He was a gifted athlete who loved baseball, softball, bowling, golf, and any yard or card game that put him alongside the people he loved. A devoted fan of the Brewers, the Packers, and NASCAR, he was never short on opinions when it came to his teams. He loved fishing and the quiet joy and camaraderie it brought him. He had a knack for repairs and projects, and a rare gift for making anyone he met feel like the most important person in the room. He had a deep and abiding love for his country, his community, and the people around him.

Dave was as authentic as they come - disciplined and structured when it mattered, yet with a rebellious streak that delighted everyone who knew him (including Sally...most of the time). Those who knew him best saw both sides - a man whose advice and wisdom you could count on, and whose humor and spirit could fill any room with joy.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Sally Shannon (Henning); children Randy Shannon (Shellie) of Milton, WI, Rick Shannon (Jennifer) of Eau Claire, WI, Vicki (Jeff) Quinn of Fort Atkinson, WI, Walter Shannon (Mo) of Evansville, WI, and Kelly (Jim) Nottestad of Necedah, WI; Denise Shannon of Eau Claire, WI; 20 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Zella Shannon; his three sisters, Barb, Donna, and Beverly; and his granddaughter Danielle.

He was, in every sense, a great man - one whose wisdom, humor, and love will echo through generations.
