Alvina Erickson Obituary

Janesville, WI - Alvina "Viney" Dawn Erickson of Janesville, age 93, passed away on March 2, 2026, at Mercy Hospital. She was born August 3, 1932, in Merrillan, Wisconsin, the daughter of James and Blondine (Olver) Illbeck. She graduated from Merrillan High School in 1949.

After moving to Janesville, Viney worked at Gibbs Manufacturing where she met her husband, James "Jim" Erickson. The two built a life together in Janesville, raising their family and creating many cherished memories.

After retiring from Parker Pen, Viney worked for many years as a hairstylist at her sister Rita's salon, "The Hair Affair", where she enjoyed visiting with clients and spending time with her sister.

Viney had a creative spirit and a love for arts and crafts. She enjoyed photography, decorating, and floral arranging. Jim and Viney loved traveling together and shared many adventures, including trips to Puerto Rico, Mexico, Alaska, Sweden, and Denmark.

Family meant everything to Viney. She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and happiness.

In recent years, Viney resided at Willowick Assisted Living, where she shared a special bond with her sister, Rita Mather, who also lives there. The two enjoyed spending time together and the comfort of having family close by.

Viney is survived by her daughter, Darla (William) Deringer of Novi, Michigan and son Andrew of rural Janesville; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sisters Rita Mather, Dorothy Ilbeck, and Nancy Ilbeck.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; her son, Timothy; and siblings James Jr., Dolores Reinart, and Dennis Ilbeck.

Viney will be remembered for her creativity, her love of family, and the many memories she shared with those she loved.

A celebration of Viney's life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from noon to 1:00pm at the APFEL WOLFE FUNERAL HOME, Janesville. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
