Douglas Holler Obituary

Douglas Wayne Holler
January 22, 1969 - October 13, 2024

On October 13, 2024, Douglas Holler, husband and father of three boys passed away suddenly while visiting family in Arizona. Doug was born January 22, 1969 in Grand Forks, ND to Conrad and Linda Holler. His family moved to Alaska in 1974, then to Wasilla shortly thereafter which would become his forever home. He graduated from Wasilla High School in 1987, after which he played junior league hockey in British Columbia and Los Angeles. He worked on the Exxon-Valdez oil spill clean-up for two summers before pursuing a career in Law Enforcement. Following graduation from the Police Academy, he spent two years as an officer in Cordova, Alaska. He then moved to the Anchorage Airport Police & Fire where he spent the next 22 years. In his career for the State, he moved up the ranks, garnered much respect, and found a second family. He retired as a Captain in May of 2024. On February 26, 2000, Doug married Misty Cottle, who was his best friend and love of his life. They raised three sons, Garrison, Roman, and Mason who brought Doug his greatest source of pride. He had a passion for hunting, fishing, hockey, 80s music, driving the dirt roads of Beluga, and all things cooking, but above all else was his love for his family and friends. He is best known for his quick wit and protective demeanor. Doug loved his hometown and shared with it his time and talent. He was a Wasilla City Council Member from 2006-2012, serving as the Deputy Mayor from 2008-2012. He coached youth hockey, served on the MAHA Board of Directors and provided countless volunteer hours to the Wasilla High School Hockey Booster Club. He is preceded in death by his mother, Linda. He is survived by his father, Conrad, his wife, Misty Holler (Cottle), his three sons, Garrison, Roman, and Mason, his siblings Jeff and Joan (Miller), and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at Wasilla High School with a reception immediately following at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) located at 301 E Lake View Avenue. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Wasilla High School Blueliners which can be mailed to PO Box 870405, Wasilla, AK 99687

I choose to remember your mannerisms such as the "BAAA" before making a proclamation that caused those around you to smile or laugh. Be it caring or mischievous, your smile brightened the day of those of us who were both proud and honored to know you. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Go with God

Doug was a tour de force in the truest sense of the word - memorable, kind, funny, capable in so many capacities, exemplary husband and father...but most importantly, the love, heart and shared soul of his family. We are so sorry for your loss and hope that behind these words, I hope you can feel our hugs, mom and I, and the collective love from the Warrior family. May this love comfort your family during this challenging time. We are thinking of you. Reach out if you need anything. Our hearts are with you and your family.

Thinking of you Misty, and all of the family. I´m so very sorry to hear this news. We always had so much fun and many memories with you both during our years in Alaska. Doug was such a sweet soul, always smiling, always there for the kids during those years of youth hockey. I will always remember him as hockey dad first, even though I know he wore many reputable titles through the years, his love shown in his volunteered time coaching the kids. Hugs to you and the boys

Doug was a great little boy I have a lot of memories of him. When his Uncle was fighting cancer he came to WY and spent time with him. Doug was only 19 or 20 years old. What a wonderful thing for a young man to do. The family appreciated his visit. Aunt Dixie

Last time we visited was just less than a month ago. As is typical of Doug he was excited & proud to tell about the original Wasilla Warriors sign he won at an auction. He loved his Warriors sports...we parents traveled with our boys on the ragtag Alaska Junior team to Pennsylvania to play in National Hockey Tournament... coming in 2nd in the nation. Conrad, Linda, Harveys, Powells, many others to watch our boys ...Doug one of them...we have many hockey memories. He surely will be playing hockey forever. So saddened for Misty, Conrad, boys and families of them. Too sudden. Too soon.
