Janet Winn Obituary

Janet Carla Winn

November 13, 1940 - January 18, 2026

Janet Carla Winn passed away on January 18, 2026, at the age of 85, in Perryville, MD. Born on November 13, 1940, Janet attended Elizabethton High School and later found her calling as a bookkeeper for a doctor's office in Laurel, Maryland. Throughout her life, Janet was a devout Christian, attending churches in Maryland and Tennessee, where she was an avid student of the Bible.

Janet's passion extended beyond her professional and religious life into her love for animals, particularly dogs. She was deeply involved with the Bassett Rescue organization, Belly Rubs, dedicating her time and resources to the welfare of these animals. Her generous and caring nature was also evident in her relationships with family and friends.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, John Slagle Jr. and Ydsia, Michael Slagle and Deborah, Tina White and David; grandchildren Tyler Greenawalt, Jonathan Slagle, Michael Slagle Jr., Heather Slagle, Candace Slagle, Charles Gennantonio, and Carly White; and great-grandchildren Isabelle Greenawalt, Autumn Slagle, Aliyah Craig, Laila Craig, and Jace Craig. Janet was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles (Chick) Winn; her parents, John Perry and Bonnie Mae Horton; and her sister, Willa Dean Jacobs.

Janet will be laid to rest alongside her husband at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to Belly Rubs of East Tennessee, supporting the cause she was so passionate about. Janet's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love continues to inspire all who knew her.

Janet may you rest in peace my Angel...Janet, you were such a loving, caring, and great example of the type of person we all should try to be! You helped family, friends, and so many dogs. I am so glad God put me in your path when we adopted Krissy! We had a long distance friendship and became best friends forever. I will miss talking to you so much! We will make a donation to Belly Rubs Basset Rescue in your Honor. Love, Donna, Jim, and Michael Heber

You she was the only aunt I had so she´s all I know as far as aunts go. When I was in school I got ditched in Asheville and had to ride a bus to TN she got at 3 am. One lonely year we spent Christmas alone together we made steak and laughed the whole time. These were really low points in my life. I was really down and out and she was there for me when no one else was. I will miss my aunt Janet.
