Raba Coggins Obituary

Raba Tyler Coggins

July 18, 1939 - February 8, 2025

Raba Tyler Coggins, 85, most recently of Tampa, Florida, passed away on February 8, 2025. Mrs. Coggins was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Coggins Jr.; her parents, James E. Tyler and Ada Mae Tyler; and her sister, Jimmie Faye Beauregard. Mrs. Coggins was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many.

Mrs. Coggins was born in Macon, Mississippi. Her family relocated to Birmingham, Alabama before she became school age, and she attended Woodrow Wilson School and graduated from Glenn High School there. She and Mr. Coggins were married in Birmingham in 1960, with subsequent residences in Raleigh, North Carolina, Huntsville, Alabama, then Cocoa, Florida, before settling in Dothan, Alabama. Most recently, she and Mr. Coggins relocated to Tampa, Florida to be near family there. She had been a member of Inglenook Presbyterian Church in Birmingham and Cocoa Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include son, Bill and daughter-in-law, Maria, grandchildren, Adam and Marabelle, and great-grandchild, Willow, all of Tampa, along with her many sisters, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and friends.

Mrs. Coggins was first and foremost a homemaker, but additionally worked in retail and education among other areas before opening her own floral business, serving Dothan and surrounding areas. Mrs. Coggins was politically active, running for County Commissioner herself, being a long-time member of the Houston County (AL) Republican Executive Committee alongside her husband, and was appointed by Gov. Guy Hunt as the Chairperson of the Houston County Board of Registrars. Until her health no longer permitted, Mrs. Coggins was also active in the local Dothan (AL) Alzheimer's Support Group, again alongside her husband.

Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, Alabama is coordinating funeral arrangements. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. CT, February 22, 2025, with a celebration of Mrs. Coggins' life to follow at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations either to your local Alzheimer's support organization or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Birmingham, 1901 14th Ave. So., Birmingham, AL, 35205.

When God created Raba, He broke the mold.

She was a dear sweet soul who was one of a kind.

I'm so thankful she no longer has to rely on those crutches and can walk freely up and down streets paved with gold.

She will be missed but her spirit will live on here in Houston County. She served as both an example as well as an inspiration to me and others during my various times on the Houston County Board of Registrars,

Family I know you're going to miss her but know that she is now reunited with her beloved husband and the rest of her friends and family that loved her and than she in turn loved so much.

As you feel the prayers from all over, know that Houston County also sends there love and support to all of you.

The Rapture is soon so you will be with her again before you know it.

Love to all of you
