Patricia "Pat Pat" Smith was the oldest of three daughters born to Howard and Hazel Whatley of Grand Saline, Texas. She graduated from Grand Saline High School in 1953 and then attended Tyler Junior College where she completed the two-year program in one year. In 1954 she married the love of her life, Hulin "Hoot" Smith, and they moved to Hurst in 1958. She dedicated her life to Christ, her husband, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Patricia Whatley Smith was the strongest, kindest, and most pragmatic woman we were blessed to call "Pat Pat". She loved God, her family, and others beyond measure, and that love was evident in everything she did. She was deeply cherished not only by her family, but also by her neighbors and friends. She was a faithful member of the Lord's church and a long time member of the Westside church of Christ in Irving, Texas.
She embodied the spirit of the Proverbs 23 woman-gracious, generous, and wise. A mentor to many, she was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. If someone needed a gift or something made with love, they knew to turn to "Pat Pat." Whether it was a handmade dish rag, a baby blanket, a soft bath towel, or a thoughtfully assembled basket from her "magical gift closet," she always gave from the heart and made everyone feel valued.
She found immense joy in the simple, meaningful moments of life. She loved spending time outdoors, taking pride in her gardening and yard work, always creating a space that was welcoming and beautiful. One of her greatest joys was watching her children and grandchildren play sports-she was their biggest fan, cheering them on with enthusiasm and love, rarely missing an opportunity to support them from the sidelines.
Her Christmas sleepovers were a treasured tradition, filled with delicious food, lively ping pong tournaments, and carefully chosen gifts that made everyone feel special. Our trips to Port Aransas brought her just as much joy-days spent at the beach, enjoying seafood, and playing games together created memories we will carry forever.
Though dementia slowly took her from us, her kindness, warmth, and beautiful smile remained, blessing us until the very end. While her family and friends will dearly miss her, we are comforted in knowing that she is in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior. Our family would like to thank the kind and caring staff at Bedford Estates Senior Living for their care of our "Pat Pat".
She is survived by her son, U. Mark Smith and wife Staci; daughter, Marci Smith Deal and husband John, all of Bedford; grandchildren Lexy and Tyler Gizzi, Stetson and Peyton Smith, Hudson and Markie Smith, and Jackson Deal; great-grandchildren Blakely and Brooks Gizzi; Walker and Bellamy Smith; sisters Sue Jones of Wills Point, Texas, and Shirley Woods of Mineola, Texas; along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hulin "Hoot" Smith and a great grandson Harrison Hoot Smith.
