Ray Brown Obituary

Ray Michael Brown

1933-2024

Mike Brown was born in Payson, Utah on November 12, 1933 to Darrel and Nadine Jane Fowler Brown. He was the eighth of nine children. He died July 21, 2024 in South Jordan, Utah. Mike attended schools in Payson and graduated from BYU in 1959. He remained a loyal Cougar throughout his life. Mike had a love of scripture study, the outdoors, horses, and sports. Hunting trips with his father and brothers were an important part of his early life. Spending time with family at Bear Lake and visits to church history sites were his favorite times.

Mike was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life. His testimony became firm as he served a mission as a young man in the Netherlands. Upon returning he met Dee Ann Clark at BYU and they were married in the Logan Temple on September 12, 1957. Together they reared six children in a loving and supportive family. Mike's family and his testimony of his Heavenly Father and the Savior were the most important part of his life and were always his number one priority. Mike and Dee Ann served missions together at the Church Office Building, the Museum of Church History and Art, and in the Novosibirsk and Moscow South Missions in Russia. He loved serving with his wife as ordinance workers and as a sealer in the Jordan River Temple. Mike served in many callings in the church including home teacher/ministering brother, class and quorum leader and teacher, bishop, high councilor, stake president, and executive secretary to area presidencies.

Mike's business career included working at Thiokol, Whitaker Corporation in San Diego, in the furniture business with some of his brothers, and he spent the last twenty years employed by the Church in the Member and Statistical Records Division. His employment at the Church was very rewarding and allowed him to associate with devoted employees and members in many countries of the world.

Mike is survived by his wife and children David Michael (Brianna) Brown, Michelle (Chris) Platt, Chris Austin (Katie) Brown and Steven Bruce Brown, thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and his brother Jay Dean Brown. Mike was proceeded in death by two of his sons Jeffry Clark Brown and Todd Allen Brown and his parents, his siblings LaPreal, Glenn, Nada, Warren, Lee, Wayne, and Ranae.

Funeral services are under the direction of Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary with viewings on Thursday, July 25 at the mortuary, 1007 W South Jordan Parkway from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. and on July 26 from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the LDS Church, 1244 Chavez Drive, South Jordan, followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Memorial Redwood Cemetery at 6500 South Redwood Road.
