Hugh Sexton, Jr. Obituary

Hugh Daniel Sexton Jr., 84, of Dothan, AL passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025. A funeral ceremony will be held in his honor at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega with Kevin Jones officiating. His family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow directly after the services at Pine Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Sexton was a native of Enterprise, AL, and lived in Mobile, AL for over 42 years where he raised his family, and was currently residing in Dothan. He graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor's of Chemical Engineering Degree in 1962, and he retired from URS Engineering Firm in Mobile in 2005. Mr. Sexton was a member of the United States Army where he spent two years as a part of Operation Desert Storm between 1990 and 1992. He later received a Bronze Star for his service and went on to retire after 28 years with the rank of Colonel. He was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Mobile for over 40 years where he sang in the choir. Mr. Sexton was an aquarium enthusiast and had many of his own over the years. He was an avid Auburn University Athletics fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, and "Granddaddy" who will be missed greatly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Daniel Sexton Sr. and Irma Langley Sexton. Mr. Sexton is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sylvia Sexton; sons, Scott Sexton (Janet), Marvin Sexton (Missy), and Hugh Sexton (Lisa); grandchildren, Shelby, Benjamin, Walker, Ainsley, Greg, and Brenna Sexton, and sister, Suzanna Creasman.
