Clara Roberts Obituary

Clara Belle Martin Roberts was born February 28, 1938, in Taylor Creek, Georgia, to Milton H. "Jack" Martin and Carrie L. Baker Martin. She entered into paradise on April 25, 2024.
Clara was the eighth of 10 children. Her parents, Milton and Carrie; brothers, Milton Jr., Alton, Alfred "AC", Lee Everett, John Dell "JD"; and adored sister, Catherine, preceded her in death.
Clara was educated in the Liberty County School System and a graduate of the class of 1956 of the historic Liberty County High School.
After finishing high school, she ventured north to New Jersey. She returned to her beloved Liberty County, Georgia, to assist her mother with the care of her ailing father.
She found gainful employment as a cook at Sugar Hill Café, where her tasty cooking of fried chicken, fish and pork chops built up quite a clientele. She later entered into food service with the Liberty County School System from where she would retire.
Although not formally educated, she was well-respected for her intellect, patience, excellent listening skills and wisdom. She was also the child in tune to family matters, the "Family Administrative Assistant".
She was united in holy matrimony to Elester Roberts on August 8, 1981, and with their union, she gained a bonus son, Lavell. They both preceded her in death.
Clara was a well-known citizen and public servant of Liberty County. She never met a stranger and always made newcomers to this community and at her church feel welcome. She brought love, light and laughter to everyone who crossed her path.
Clara was known for her cooking, creativity, emotional strength, sewing, gardening and love of plants.
She was a lifelong member of Pleasant grove A.M.E. Church, where she served faithfully as past president of the Ushers' Ministry. Joining the Ushers' Ministry at age 14, she was the longest serving usher.
Many have witnessed her special ability to quiet and entertain children. In addition, she is one of the longest-serving and favored class leaders, winning the hearts of generations of her members.
Clara especially enjoyed her participation in the Senior Teens.
In recent years, she was recognized as one of the "Legends of Taylor Creek."
Many of her church family have tasted her treats and taken home a bag of goodies from her trunk.
Although not an official missionary, she did the work. And although not a member of the Outreach Ministry, she has been a blessing to so many people in the church and community.
"Belle," as she was affectionately called by her children, leaves to continue her legacy: her beloved daughter and son-in-love, Christie and her husband, Stanley, Loganville, Ga. She also leaves behind one adored son, Neal Eric Brown, and his special friend, Alicia, Walthourville, Ga.; grandchildren, Brandon Fox (Charise), Nytiesha Thomas, Jacob and Aiden Fox, Eric Brown; great-grand, Nilanni; two heartstrings she helped raise from infancy, April Lovette Whitaker (Tony) and Aaron Lovette (Romonda); a devoted godson, Derrick "DJ" Baker; two cherished sisters, Louise M. Lovett and Arlie M. Brown, Walthourville, Ga.; one devoted baby brother, Master Sgt. Vernell Martin, USAF, retired, (Beverly) Rancho Cordova, Calif.
Clara's extended family includes three sisters-in-law, Ethel Martin, Cincinnati, Ohio; Earlene Martin, Jacksonville, Fla.; Inez Martin, Hinesville, Ga. To cherish her memory, Clara leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She also leaves extended family and dear friends to include her special friend, Elijah Roberts and family; the Perry family and the Elester Roberts family.
The family will receive guests on Friday, May 3, 2024, 5-7 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Church, 1450 West Oglethorpe Highway, Hinesville, GA.
A celebration of life for Clara B. Roberts is scheduled for May 4, 2024, at 3 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Church. Interment will be in Taylor Creek Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Hayes, officiant; the Rev. John E. Morse Jr., eulogist.
She will be deeply missed.
