Elizabeth Kirchner Obituary
She was a native of Philadelphia, Pa., and graduated from Lincoln High School. She loved to dance and appeared on ""American Band Stand"" several times as a young woman.
She then married the love of her life, Bill, a United States Marine, and began to build a family. Betty worked in real estate for a while. Her extinctual spirit led her in to becoming an Avon lady.
Betty later moved to Port St. Lucie where she worked for Kipplinger Estate for several years.
She was a very devoted Presbyterian Church member and enjoyed crocheting prayer shawls for those in need. Betty retired to Telford, Tenn., where she remained active in the church.
She was an avid reader. Crafting was one of her favorite hobbies and she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Betty also enjoyed gardening and canning to share with friends and family.
She was the daughter of the late Robert and Myrtle Weir. She was also preceded in death by one son, Wilbur ""Bill"" Kirchner Jr.
Surviving are her husband, Bill Kirchner, of Telford, Tenn.; two daughters, Kathy DiMartino of Murphy, N.C., and Dawn Welsh of Leland, N.C.; two sons, Bob Kirchner and wife Mary of Whiteland, N.C., and Matt Kirchner and wife Sylvia of Knoxville, Tenn.; one sister, Sally Massinger of Philadelphia, Pa.; 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Family will serve as pallbearers.
A private family viewing will be held in Knoxville, Tenn., prior to the service.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the caregivers from Golden Years Home Care for the amazing around the clock care and compassion they gave to Betty.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Elizabeth ""Betty"" Kirchner to Valley River Humane Society, P.O. Box 658, Murphy, NC 28906.
Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, is in charge of all arrangements.
